Leicester, Sept 7: In a horrifying incident, a Muslim mob could be seen hunting down and terrorizing Hindus on the streets of Leicester, UK. The violence took place on August 28 after India won the match against Pakistan in Asia Cup 2022.
The incident followed an Asia Cup cricket match that saw India defeat Pakistan. After the match, hundreds of people poured out onto the main road through Belgrave in Leicester to celebrate. The video went viral but no mainstream media has covered it. There have been reports also that the Hindus were terrorizing Muslims. However, according to the videos, the Muslim mob walked toward the houses of Hindus and attacked them.
Video footage of the incident showed the moment a fight broke out in Shaftesbury Avenue, off Melton Road. A man's T-shirt was ripped off as a number of men or youths were seen throwing punches at him and others. Videos of gangs escalating attacks on Hindus have been shared on Twitter.
“Gangs running riot and escalating attacks on Hindus. Innocent Hindus have been terrorized in their own properties, there have been attempts to stab and there has been rampant vandalism of Hindu properties,” Rashami Samant tweeted.
Meanwhile, in response to continued tensions, the local police have put special measures in place to contain the situation. A number of people were filmed making offensive statements amid scenes of violence in the Belgrave area of the city, as per a report by LeicestershireLive.
Leicestershire Police said it was treating chants made by the men and related violence as ‘hate crimes’. Police have put in place special stop and search and dispersal measure in neighbourhoods of Belgrave, Rushey Mead and Spinney Hills, among others.
