On the occasion of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, NewsBharati has come up with an initiative to celebrate India's Independence. We have tried to attempt to introduce 75 Legendary Women of India who have made immense contributions in their respective fields.
Indian history is filled with stories of valant female warriors, who had taken up their sword to fight for the cause of self rule. One such great warrior was Mai Bhago, also known as Mata Bhag Kaur.
She is the first and most well-known Sikh woman warrior. Mai Bhago had led a force of 40 Sikh soldiers against Mughas, who came to capture Guru Gobind Singh at Khidrana, in 1705. Under her leadership, the men fought ferociously till their dying breath, forcing the enemy to withdraw leaving Mai Bhago the sole survivor of the Battle of Khidrana.
