New Delhi, September 29: A day after the Centre banned the Popular Front of India (PFI) and its sister organisations under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA), the official Twitter handle of Islamist organisation has been withheld in the country.
When one visits on @PFIOfficial’s account, it says that the account has been withheld in India, "in response to a legal demand."
Besides PFI's official Twitter account, websites, Facebook accounts and Youtube profiles of radical 'Islamic Orgnisation' also have been blocked. Reportedly, the Government has sent instructions to block the websites and social media accounts linked to the banned organisation.
However, it should be highlighted that the accounts of PFI and the sister organisations' state branches are still active on social media. Meanwhile, the WhatsApp accounts linked to the organization are also being monitored.
For unreserved, the Amit Shah-led Ministry of Home Affairs banned PFI and several of its affiliates for having "links" with global terror groups like ISIS. Apart from PFI, the Ministry has also banned its sister organisations named Rehab India Foundation (RIF), Campus Front of India (CFI), All India Imams Council (AIIC), National Confederation of Human Rights Organization (NCHRO), National Women’s Front, Junior Front, Empower India Foundation and Rehab Foundation, Kerala.
Issuing the notification regarding this, the ministry said some PFI founding members were leaders of the outlawed Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI), and also highlighted the outfit's alleged linkages with Jamat-ul-Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB).
This development comes after the National Investigation Agency and Enforcement Directorate, conducted nationwide raids on the orgnisation and arrested over 150 leaders of an Islamic organisation.
