Bachendri Pal scripted history by becoming the first Indian woman to climb Mount Everest, the world’s highest peak. She was her group's only female member. She joined the ranks of Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary, the first men to scale Mount Everest.
This was only the beginning of her subsequent career; she later went on to lead numerous milestones for both women and mixed teams.
Pal received numerous honours for her accomplishments. In 1984, she was awarded the Padma Shri, in 1986, the Arjuna Award, in 1994, the National Adventure Award, and in 2019, the Padma Bhushan, among others.
