Meerut, Aug 9: The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force arrested Shrikant Tyagi from Meerut on Tuesday. Tyagi is accused of assaulting a woman resident of Grand Omaxe society in Sector 93B in Noida.
Several videos surfaced on social media in which Shriknat Tyagi was allegedly seen and heard hurling expletives and also pushing the woman co-resident of Grand Omaxe who had objected to him planting trees in the common area of the society.
The self-proclaimed BJP leader Tyagi was is at large since August 5. The ruling party denied any links with him. Tyagi had moved a local court in the Gautam Buddh Nagar district with a plea for surrender. The Noida Police had announced a reward of Rs 25,000 for the arrest of the accused. Taking strong note of the incident, the Uttar Pradesh government on August 8 used a bulldozer to raze illegal construction outside the ground floor apartment of Tyagi. As Tyagi went underground, the UP Police intensified its searches. He has been booked under the stringent Gangsters Act.
Additional Director General of Police (law and order) Prashant Kumar categorically stated that the UP government will not tolerate such incidents. "The in-charge of the local police station has been suspended. Besides him, a sub-inspector and four constables have also been suspended over laxity in work," Kumar said. BJP MP Mahesh Sharma congratulated the police for the arrest of Tyagi and heaped praised Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for taking action against criminals.
The UP Police have suspended six police officials for alleged laxity in connection with the case. Six aides of Tyagi who had barged into the Grand Omaxe society in Sector 93B on August 7 evening were arrested and sent to jail.
