On the occasion of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, NewsBharati has come up with an initiative to celebrate India's Independence. We have tried to attempt to introduce 75 Legendary Women of India who have made immense contributions in their respective fields.
When one speaks of Indian classic music, it is difficult to not remember MS Subbulakshmi. The renowned classical vocalist was the first musician to be presented with India’s highest civilian honor, Bharat Ratna, and the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay award in 1974.
The 'nightingale' of Carnatic music is used to perform in different languages including Tamil, Kannada, Sanskrit, Punjabi, Hindi, Malayalam, Telugu, Bengali, Gujarati, and Marathi.
She has traveled to London, New York, Canada, and other places as India's cultural ambassador and was the First Indian who performed in United Nations General Assembly in 1966.
