Bengaluru, August 25: After receiving a threatening letter over his comment on Tipu Sultan, Karnataka BJP MLA KS Eshwarappa has filed a police complaint against it. This development comes mere days after the southern state saw a heated row over Independence day banners featuring Tipu Sultan and Hindutva icons Veer Damodar Savarkar.

In the message that was reportedly sent to his residence, they warned the BJP leaders that his tongue will be cut if he calls Tipu Sultan "Muslim Goonda" once again. Meanwhile reacting to the threat letter, Eshwarappa said that he has never called all Muslims 'Goondas' and he's not scared of such threats.

Earlier on Tuesday, senior BJP leader KS Eshwarappa accused minorities of sparking communal tension in Shivamogga. "I want to tell elders of the Muslim community, I'm not saying all Muslims are goondas. Elders of the Muslim community have made efforts for peace in the past, I want to tell them to advise the youngsters who are indulging in goondaism, if not the government will act and they should be ready to face it," he stated.

It should be noted that Karnataka Police had imposed section 144 in the district on Independence day after two groups entered into a heated argument over the installation of a banner with a pic of Savarkar. Police resorted to a mild lathicharge to bring the situation under control and to disperse the crowd. Police has also arrested 4 Muslim people regarding this matter.
