In a significant development, Gautam Adani, Asia’s richest man, got into India’s media and entertainment industry as his company acquired a 29% stake in broadcaster NDTV Ltd. Besides, he also launched an open offer to acquire an additional 26% from shareholders, as mandated by law.
This came as surprise for some and for others, it was shocking like Senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal. He expressed his concern over Adani’s acquisition of NDTV. "Almost the last bastion of Independent journalism being taken over by industry." NDTV is known for being leftist and spreading its agenda to mislead the public. Now, Adani Group taking 29.18% stake in NDTV means the founder-promoters of the media, Radhika and Prannoy Roy will take a backseat, thereby making Adani Group the major shareholder.
This announcement has made netizens react in very hilarious ways. Twitter has been berserk with memes and responses. Let us go through a couple of reactions and responses on Twitter.
"Adani has bought NDTV. For the very first time an Indian businessman has bought a Pakistani media house," a Twitter user said whereas Director Vivek Agnihotri voiced a similar opinion saying, "I hear Adani is buying NDTV. I didn’t know Indians are allowed to buy Pakistani channels."
Cricketer Amit Kumar also joined this meme fest with a funny video.
