K'taka police arrest 2 people in murder of Karnataka BJP youth worker

Bengaluru, July 28: Two days after BJP youth wing worker Praveen Nettaru was killed in Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka, two people were arrested on Thursday.Nettaru, a member of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha district executive committee, was allegedly hacked to death by unknown bike-borne miscreants in Dakshin Kannada district on Tuesday.

The 32-year-old, a resident of Bellare in Dakshina Kannada, was attacked by the assailants when he was returning home after closing his poultry shop late Tuesday evening.
 
The murder of the BJP youth functionary triggered protests in some parts of the district on Wednesday with instances of stone pelting and lathi charges being reported in some areas.
 
Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Wednesday assured that the culprits involved in the "heinous act" will be arrested soon and be punished as per law. "The heinous murder of our party worker Praveen Nettar from Sullia in Dakshina Kannada is condemnable. Those involved in the heinous act will be arrested soon and will be punished as per law," the Chief Minister said in a tweet.

The Chief Minister has cancelled events organised to celebrate his government's one year in office on Thursday.
 
"My government completes one year and it is three years of the BJP rule after coming to power under BS Yediyurappa. We had planned for Janotsava but after looking at the pain of the victim's mother and family, I have decided to cancel the events," Bommai said in a hurriedly called press conference at his residence on Wednesday midnight.

Earlier today, the aggrieved mother of the BJP youth wing worker demanded stern action against the culprits, saying that the killers should be hanged.
 
"I'm not feeling well. His father is also a heart patient. He was our only son and had planned to build a home for us. Now, who'll build it?... Culprits should be punished, whoever did this must be hanged," the bereaved mother of the deceased had said.
