In a major development, the fast-spreading monkeypox infection has reached India, as the country has reported the first-ever case of the monkeypox virus in the Southern state of Kerala. As per the reports, a 35-year-old man in Kerala who returned from UAE is confirmed to have been diagnosed with the disease.
Kerala Health minister, Veena George said that the person showed symptoms of the virus and was in close contact with a monkeypox patient abroad. The patient is quite stable, and all the vitals are normal, she added.
She also informed us that all the steps are being taken as per the guidelines issued by WHO and ICMR. The close contacts of the patient include his father and mother and they have been kept under observation at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College (TVM). The symptoms of monkeypox were detected at the TVM.
To help the state, the federal government has dispatched a team that includes specialists from the National Center for Disease Control (NCDC).
