About fifteen days back, we decided to go to big park in Pune for our walk so I took out the car and moved across to the first traffic light near to my house …Road was partially blocked on right side due to some construction activity so I was on left side of road. On this junction, there was no automatic left so it was OK legally.
It was RED LIGHT so we stopped.
Suddenly, Maruti Van came behind and started honking.
As I could see in rear view mirror, there was a lady driver along with eight kids.
I moved my car a bit on right side, assuming that she must be planning to go to left since there was a school about 500 meters ahead on the road. I thought kids must be in a hurry to go to school.
The moment I gave the space, lady driver went straight and jumped the red light and crashed with a two-wheeler who was coming from opposite side. I felt bad about myself -why did I give space to this lady driver to jump the RED LIGHT?
I tried to forget the incident.
In the same afternoon, I went to the locality market and found the same Van standing, with the kids inside. There was a male driver.
I asked him “There was a lady driver on this Van in the morning and she is such a rash driver, I saw her jumping the red light and almost killing a scooter driver.”
“Sir, she is my wife and met with an accident today morning only after dropping the kids to the school, that is why I have come to take these kids back to their homes.”
“Oh, I am sorry, she is such a bad driver. Hope she has not met with a serious accident.”
“Not such a serious one, but good enough to teach her the lessons. These kids have refused to go in the van if she is the driver.”
Suddenly there was a big chorus “We will not allow auntie to drive the Van till she improves.”
I was surprised.
“Are the kids and teens required to ensure the social discipline in our society ….”
If our answer is YES, society is safe.
