Mumbai, June 30: Eknath Shinde has been sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Maharashtra, in the presence of BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis, who took oath as Shinde's deputy, at Raj Bhavan. Fadnavis and Shinde had earlier met Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari where they staked claim for government formation.
“I wouldn't be part of the government,” Fadnavis announced at the press conference after meeting Maharashtra governor Bhagat Singh Koshiyari at the Raj Bhavan this afternoon.
The rest of the ministers from the Shiv Sena and BJP and the independents will take oath on another day. Shinde thanked Fadnavis saying he was setting a big example for the state and the country.
The impression so far had been that Fadnavis, who has 106 BJP MLAs with him, will be the CM. Shinde, who at last count had 50 MLAs with him, was expected to be his deputy. But things took a rapid turn.

Uddhav Thackeray, on Wednesday evening, stepped down as Maharashtra chief minister following a rebellion in his own party. On realising that he will not be able to prove his government’s majority on the floor of the House.

He added, “Shiv Sena went with the people whom Balasaheb Thackeray opposed all his life. The Thackeray government was corruption-ridden and it led to two ministers going to jail under corruption charges."
This comes only a day after Uddhav Thackeray resigned as the chief minister, marking the end of Maha Vikas Aghadi government rule in the state.
