Delhi, June 28: Based on the complaint filed by a 26-year-old woman, Delhi police have booked Congress President Sonia Gandhi's personal secretary PP Madhavan for sexually assaulting the people. Delhi's Uttam Nagar police station has registered a case against him under sections 376 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Confirming the news, M Harsh Vardhan, Dwarka Deputy Commissioner of Police, said "A complaint was received at the Uttam Nagar police station on 25 June. A case under sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered. We are investigating the matter."
As per the complaint filed by police, Madhavan sexually assaulted a Dalit lady under the guise of a job interview and impending marriage. The woman's late spouse used to work as labor in the Delhi headquarters of the Congress until his death in 2020.
However, Madhavan has denied the allegations, calling the charges "false", adding that they are aimed at vilifying his image out of political vendetta.
"I have the evidence to demonstrate and establish that the complaint has been made in a pre-concerted manner in order to settle a political vendetta and the present complaint is devoid of merits," Madhavan said in a statement.
