Insulting National flag, some Islamist protesters who were "peacefully protesting" against the controversial statements by Nupur Sharma, defaced the Indian tricolour, replacing the Ashok Chakra at the centre with Muslim Kalma.
It came to light after a video of the protest went viral on a social media platform. In a viral video, a protestor can be seen waving a tricolour with ‘Kalma’ in place of Ashok Chakra.
This incident took place during the protest being held outside Masjide Rahmath in the Mahabubnagar district of Telangana. Around 15-200 protestors gathered outside the mosque after the Friday prayers to stage a protest against the comments made about Prophet Muhammad.
For the unreserved, Kalma is a declaration, or statement of faith, which literally means "word". The recitation of the Shahadah or Kalma, the "oath/testimony", is the most important of the Five Pillars of Islam for Muslims.
It comes amid widespread violence in India in response to remarks about Prophet Muhammad. On June 10, Friday,
massive protests emerged in multiple cities across the nation against Nupur Sharma. In Karnataka’s Belagavi, an effigy of suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma was found hanging on the Fort Road. Demonstrators in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj took to stone pelting after Friday Namaz to mark their protest against Nupur Sharma for her audacity to make comments on Prophet Muhammad that are mentioned in authentic and reliable Islamic Hadiths.
