New Delhi, Jun 10: India - Bangladesh cross - border bus service, a popular means of travel between the two neighbours was flagged off from Agartala, capital of North Eastern state Tripura on Friday (Jun 10). The new facility aims to boost tourism and people to people ties.
Regarding the bus service, Indian High Commission in Bangladesh tweeted, "The India - Bangladesh cross-border bus service on Agartala-Dhaka-Kolkata-Agartala flagged off from Agartala today-will help boost tourism and people-to-people ties. The cross-border bus services are a popular means of travel in India and Bangladesh." The cross border bus service resumed two years after its suspension due to COVID 19 pandemic.
Before the suspension of bus service two years back, buses were operated on five cross border routes: Dhaka - Kolkata - Dhaka, Dhaka - Agartala - Dhaka, Dhaka - Sylhet - Shillong - Guwahati - Dhaka, Agartala - Dhaka - Kolkata - Agartala, and Dhaka - Khulna - Kolkata - Dhaka.
Earlier through another tweet, the Indian High Commission said, "Resumption of India Bangladesh train service, Cross-border Maitri Express Service between Dhaka-Kolkata and Bandhan Express Service between Kolkata-Khulna resumed on May 29. The Mitali Express Service between New Jalpaiguri-Dhaka launched on Jun 1."
