Union Home Minister Amit Shah is on a 2 - day visit to West Bengal. During his public address at the Paschim Bango Samman Samavesh in Siliguri, on May 5, Amit Shah slammed Trinamool Congress; the ruling party of WB, for spreading rumors about the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). He said that the Central govt will implement the act once the pandemic period is over and the COVID related administrative and other complications end. He said that the West Bengal CM Mamta Banerjee doesn't want the refugees who have come to Bengal to get Indian citizenship.
While addressing the public gathering in Siliguri, "TMC is spreading rumors about CAA that it won't be implemented on the ground, but I would like to say that we will implement CAA on the ground the moment the COVID 19 pandemic ends. Mamta Didi only wants that the infiltration and the refugees who have come to Bengal should not get citizenship. CAA was reality, is reality and is going to be reality." The CAA allows persecuted minorities belonging to the Hindu, Sikh, Jain, Buddhist, Parsi and Christian communities from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan to avail Indian citizenship.
He also accused that Mamta Banerjee always misled the Gorkha brothers and sisters and said, "I have come today to tell the Gorkha brothers and sisters that if there is one party that thinks in the interest of the Gorkhas, it is only BJP. We have said that a permanent political solution to all the problems will be found within the limits of the constitution."
