New Delhi, May 30: In Ladakh an FIR has been filed against driver Ahmed Shah regarding the recent army convoy accident that took place around 25 km from Thoise, in Ladakh. The news shocked the entire nation. Ahmed Shah was driving a private vehicle hired by the army to move 26 soldiers from the transit camp at Partapur to a forward location.
According to the primary reports, in the accident that took place on May 28, at 9.00 am, the 26 soldiers, out of whom 7 have reportedly succumbed to their injuries and other 19 are injured and undergoing treatment, were being moved in a privately hired vehicle from an Indian Army brigade headquartered at transit camp at Partapur to a forward location called Sub Sector Hanif, as per the Indian army.
According to the station house officer at Nubra, Inspector Stanzin Dorje, the accident is termed as “Prima facie case of driver’s negligence.” Another police officer said, “The driver, Ahmed Shah of Changmar, lost control of the bus and it rolled down into a deep gorge, around 80 to 90 feet deep. Rescue operations were launched by Leh police, Army and locals.”
As per the reports, an FIR has been registered at Nubra police station in connection with the case against driver Ahmed Shah, under sections 279 for rash or negligent driving, 337 for causing hurt by an act which endangers human life, 304-A for causing death by negligence, of the Indian Penal Code. According to the statement of an army official, the incident is a reminder of how soldiers put their lives on the line daily to carry out their duties in remote areas.
