Chandanotsavam at Andhra's Simhachalam Temple; Authorities deploy heavy security

Chandanotsavam that is being celebrated on May 3, is the only day when the devotees can have have a real darshan of the Vishnu idol, since the murti is covered in sandalwood for the rest of the year.

Vishakhapatnam, May 3: On the occasion of Chandanotsavam a footfall of around 2 lakh devotees is expected at the Simhachalam Temple in Vishakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. In order to put a check on the crowd, the authorities have deployed around 2,500 police personnel.

The Simhachalam Temple (Sri Varahalakshmi Narasimha Swamy Vari Devasthanam) is expecting a footfall of at least 2 lakh devotees, on the auspicious occasion of Chandanotsavam. The district authorities have thus deployed around 2,500 police personnel, including the OCTOPUS, for the convenience of devotees during darshan and to avoid any mishap at the time of darshan.
 
 
 
 
 
Chandanotsavam, that is being celebrated on May 3, is the only day when the devotees can have have a real darshan of the Vishnu idol, since the murti is covered in sandalwood for the rest of the year. Therefore, devotees from not only Andhra but also from the neighbouring states of Chhattisgarh and Odisha also rush to the Simhachalam temple for darshan.
 
According to the District Collector A Mallikarjuna, around 2 lakh devotees are expected to visit the temple its biggest annual festival of Chandanotsavam. He has also shared that administration has made arrangements with separate queues for the devotees, each having darshan tickets worth Rs. 1000, Rs. 1200 and Rs. 1500. The highest price ticket will be for VIPs whereas the ticket for general public will cost Rs. 300.
