Hyderabad, May 02: Hyderabad's Osmania University has denied the permission to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi to hold a 'non-political' meeting inside the university campus.
It should be noted that RaGa is all set to visit poll-bound Telangana on May 6 and 7. He was also scheduled to hold a 'non-political' meeting inside the university, however, the OU officials have denied permission, saying, political meetings are not allowed on the campus.
As per the university, they denied permission to RaGA as it has passed a resolution in the executive council in June 2021 stating that no political activity should be allowed on university premises because it leads to academic disturbance and the varsity hasn’t allowed any political party to conduct any meeting.
Following the development, the Student wing of the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) opposed the decision and staged out protest demanding permission for the meeting. While speaking to the media, a National Students' Union of India (NSUI) member said, "It has been decided that Rahul Gandhi will address the students here at the Osmania University on May 7."
"So we (NSUI) have come here to give a representation to the Vice-Chancellor of Osmania University but he is not giving us the permission (to hold Rahul Gandhi's visit) as he has been ordered to do so by the government of Telangana," he added.
The Congress party also alleged that Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao-led Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) government's role is behind denying permission for Rahul Gandhi's meeting with students in OU.
Police have arrested at least 18 National Students' Union of India (NSUI) workers, including president B Venkat, who were at the campus demanding permission for the meeting. It is alleged that NSUI workers pelted stones after the university refused permission.
