After BrahMos, the Philippines looks to buy India's Tejas fighter jet

New Delhi, May 17: After purchasing BrahMos Shore Based Anti-Ship Missile System, the Philippines is looking to buy a range of Indian aircraft, including fighter jets and helicopters according to the reports.

The Philippine Aerospace Development Corporation (PADC) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), according to the reports. The memorandum was signed afte Philippines' Defence Ministry signed a $374 million contract with the BrahMos Aerospace Pvt Ltd (BAPL) for the supply of Shore Based Anti-Ship Missile System to the Philippines. The deal between India and the Philippines was signed in January 2022.
 
The purchase of HAL Tejas fighter jet, LCH attack helicopter, as well as Dhruv and LUH utility helicopters has been reportedly discussed. This would be the first export order for the Tejas strengthening the Atmanirbhar initiative and Make in India.

There have been several nations that are considering to purchase the Tejas, most notably Malaysia, which received HAL’s bid in its ongoing light fighter jet tender. Currently the Indian Air Force remains the sole operator of the Tejas.
The HAL Tejas is an Indian, single engine, delta wing, light multirole fighter designed by the Aeronautical Development Agency in collaboration with Aircraft Research and Design Centre of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited for the Indian Air Force and Indian Navy.
