Colombo, May 16: Sri Lankan Defence Ministry has said that it will probe the reports on the planned attacks by the LTTE on Mullivaikkal Rememberance Day, on May 18, a day observed by Sri Lankan Tamils to remember those who died in the final stages of the country's civil war.
After intelligence and security forces provided information regarding national security of the crisis struck island nation, Sri Lankan Defence Ministry said it is investigating the matter of the possible LTTE attack. Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) is a terror group that sought to establish an independent Tamil state or 'Eelam' in northern and eastern Sri Lanka. The terror organization was established in 1976, that further grew to become one of the world's most sophisticated and tightly organized terrorist groups.
According to the reports of Sri lankan media earlier, Indian Intelligence services have given information to Sri Lanka. Besides, investigations will be carried out in this regard. However, all further will be taken to strengthen the security while informing the respective security forces about the same.
Recently, violent protests in Sri Lanka have resulted in the resignation of Former Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa, with presently increasing demands of his arrest. Sri Lanka, at the same time, got its new leadership when Ranil Wickremesinghe became the new Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, who will hopefully pave way for the nation to get out of the crisis.
