New Delhi, April 07: In a bid to stop India from importing oil from Russia, the Biden administration has come up with a new idea and offered that they are ready to support India in diversifying its energy imports.
"We do not think India should accelerate or increase imports of Russian energy and other commodities even as those decisions are made by individual countries," White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki told reporters at her daily news conference.
"And (the US is) also making clear that we stand ready to support India as in any efforts to diversify its imports and serve as a reliable supplier even as they're only importing about one to two percent of their oil from Russia," she said in response to a question.
This comes a day after the same Jen Psaki warned India over importing oil from Russia. She said that it was not in India’s interest to increase Russian energy imports and other commodities. She continues, US expects every country around the world should abide by the sanctions that we announced on Russia.
"Energy payments are not sanctioned. That's a decision made by each country, and we've been very clear that each country is going to make their own choices even as we have made the decision and other countries have made the decision to ban energy imports," Psaki said.
Before, Pasaki, US Deputy National Security Advisor Daleep Singh, who came to New Delhi to discuss the Russian sanctions with Indian officials also warned Indian over continuing business with Russia. He said the US would not like to see any country engaging in financial transactions with the Russian central bank.
US NSA tried to warn India, saying, Russia would not come to India's rescue if China was to continue its misadventure along the LAC.
