Tour of Duty : India's youngest 'Agniveers' will soon serve the nation

New Delhi, Apr 6 : Through a major reform, the govt is expected to reduce the age of the armed forces, who will be called Agniveers . The govt is in its final stages to lock the Agnipath recruitment scheme under which youth would be recruited as soldiers for a period of 3 years.

During their three years' service, the troops will be titled 'Agniveers', after which the defence forces will have the option of retaining some of them in service. Discussions are in the final stage on the Agnipath or Tour of Duty entry scheme. The three forces have been giving presentations on the project and the top govt officials have fully backed it.

According to the reports, the forces will also have the option of recruiting specialists for the specific tasks who would perform the desired roles. The recruitment of soldiers in the armed forces has been largely affected due to the COVID 19 pandemic, resulting to over 1.25 lakh vacancies in the three services. Few more meeting of the forces with the concerned departments will result in the finalization of the scheme.
