Indian Army initiates general court martial proceedings against personnel

New Delhi, Apr 5: Indian army has initiated general court - martial proceedings against a Captain ranked officer in an operation executed in Shopian's Amshipura (J&K) in July 2020. According to the army, the proceedings were initiated after the court of inquiry and the summary of evidence indicated a need for disciplinary proceedings.
The Army PRO in Srinagar said, "Indian army is committed to the ethical conduct of operations. Further updates on the case will be shared in a manner so as not to prejudice due process of law." The army personnel has been held for the killing of three men in a staged encounter in Amshipura, in South Kashmir in July 2020. It was found that the troops had exceeded the powers vested under the AFSPA (Armed Forces Special Powers Act).
Imtiyaz Ahmed, Abrar Ahmed and Mohammed Ibrar, who came from Jammu's Rajouri, were the three men who were falsely encountered on July 18, 2020, Shopian's Amshipura in South Kashmir and labelled as terrorists. According to the reports, presently, the summary of evidence is being examined by the authorities concerned in consultation with legal advisors for proceeding further”.
