Karauli, April 15: In an administrative reshuffle, Rajasthan government has transferred 69 IAS officers, including the district collector of Karauli, where violence happened during a Hindu procession earlier this month.
The former district collector, Rajendra Singh Shekhawat, has been transferred to Jaipur and will take up the role of commissioner of departmental inquiry.
Curfew was imposed in Karauli after members of two communities clashed on April 2 and several shops were burnt after stones were allegedly pelted at a bike rally on the occasion of the Hindu New Year.
The district administration, which allowed the rally to pass through a Muslim-majority locality, was under fire for not having taken measures to prevent untoward incidents. Though subdivisional magistrate had not given permission for engaging a DJ, the rally allegedly had one playing objectionable slogans.
The Rajasthan government also ordered an administrative probe on 8 April into the stone-pelting incident.
