According to police, the incident took place late on Sunday night when a group of youths were returning home from a Ram Navami procession chanting 'Jai Shri Ram.' Police said that when they passed through a minority-dominated area, some locals objected, and an argument and fight broke out between the two groups.

Police said that after the fracas, the youths from the procession went away and returned with 40-45 persons, but seeing that the rival group had gone away, the crowd of 40-45 persons vandalized vehicles, including cars, autorickshaws and tempos.

Police said that senior inspectors of Mankhurd police station Mahadev Koli and K Kharat acted swiftly and called additional forces. Police reached the spot and detained a few persons and the situation was brought under control, said an officer.
