Dehradun, Mar 14: In a major development, five girl cadets are set to join Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC) in Dehradun in July. This was informed by Uttarakhand Governor Lieutenant General Gurmit Singh (retd) as the RIMC celebrated its centennial Founder's Day on 13 March 2022.
Singh expressed hope that this will lead to a "big change." Uttarakhand Governor, former IAF chief Air Chief Marshal BS Dhanoa (retd) along with Western Army Commander Lt Gen Nav Khanduri participated in the centenary celebrations.
Speaking on the occasion, Lt Gen Gurmit Singh said, "From July, 5 girl cadets will join Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC) and I am hopeful that it will lead to a big change. RIMC has done preparations on all levels. Women will create history in the Armed Forces leadership."

In a message to the institution, Gen MM Naravane,
Chief of Army Staff complimented and acknowledged the stellar contribution of the RIMC and the Alumni in the service of the Nation for the last one hundred years. He also complimented the College staff for keeping the institution fully open and functional during the COVID pandemic.

The COAS urged Cadets to prepare for future leadership roles and challenges which will be shaped by rapid changes in technology. Expressing confidence on the preparations made by the College to welcome and integrate girl cadets into the folds of the prestigious institution, the COAS remarked that “Girls joining the College would be its Centennial moment”.
In Oct 2021, following the directive of the Supreme Court, the defence ministry had proposed to allow girl students to be admitted to Rashtriya Indian Military College (RIMC) and Rashtriya Military Schools (RMS).
