India has sent three flights to Poland to bring back 600 students evacuated from Sumy. According to the details shared by the students, the first flight was for first, second and third-year students.

The second flight is for 4th and 5th-year students and the 3rd is for those with pets, 5th and 6th-year students and for any other who may have been left behind, they said.

The Indian govt is carrying out a challenging evacuation exercise under Operation Ganga to help stranded Indians leave Ukraine. The operation to evacuate the 600 students from Sumy began on Tuesday morning.

On Wednesday, the students had boarded a special train from Lviv in western Ukraine for Poland. The students had reached Lviv from Poltava on another special train. After reaching Poland, the students thanked the Indian government for evacuating them from war-torn Ukraine. Amid Russia-Ukraine crisis, the students had to stay in bomb shelters and basements of their hostels in Sumy for two weeks.

Sumy has been witnessing heavy shelling and intense exchange of fire between Russian and Ukrainian forces since last month when Russia began military operation against its neighbouring country.
