PM Modi thanks Slovakian & Romanian counterparts for help in evacuation

New Delhi, March 1: In telephonic conversations with his Romanian and Slovak Republic counterparts, PM Narendra Modi expressed anguish over the ongoing violence and humanitarian crisis in Ukraine, and also thanked them for their assistance provided for the evacuation of the Indian citizens.

He stressed upon the importance of respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of nations. He spoke to the heads of the two nations where the Indian ministers are being deployed for evacuation of Indian students stranded in Ukraine.
 
 
First, PM Modi spoke with his Slovak Republic counterpart Eduard Heger, and thanked him for the assistance provided by the country in the evacuation of Indian citizens from Ukraine, and for permitting special evacuation flights from India. He requested for Slovak Republic's continued assistance in the next few days.

Modi also informed Heger about the deployment of law minister Kiren Rijiju as his special envoy to oversee the evacuation efforts of Indians.

In his conversation with PM Nicolae Ionel Ciuca, Modi appreciated Romania's gesture in allowing Indian citizens to enter the country without visas, and for permitting special evacuation flights from India. The PM informed Ciuca about the deployment of civil aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, as his special envoy to oversee the evacuation efforts of Indians over the next few days in co-ordination with the local authorities.

PM Modi once again expressed his anguish about the violence, and reiterated India's consistent appeal for cessation of hostilities and a return to dialogue.
