Lucknow, Feb 28: Voting for the fifth phase of Uttar Pradesh assembly elections ended on Sunday, with around 53.93% turnout recorded till 5pm. Meanwhile, addressing a rally in his parliamentary constituency Varanasi, PM Narendra Modi said Varanasi will open the way for the country to be free from poverty and crime.

Addressing a rally at Deoria in Uttar Pradesh, Prime Minister Narendra Modi once again attacked dynastic parties for neglecting the welfare of the people of Uttar Pradesh. He said this time, the assembly elections were a contest between rashtrawadis and parivarwadis. Stressing on the fact that parivarwadis never prioritized Deoria, Prime Minister Modi said, “Some time ago, I laid foundation stones of nine medical colleges in UP, including Deoria’s Maharshi Devraha Baba Autonomous State Medical College. This medical college could have been constructed before, but these parivarwadis never prioritize you.”
 
 
 
He further said, “This election is between rashtrawadis and parivarwadis… Remember how you had to take your vehicles to Gorakhpur in medical emergencies because the then government did not pay any heed to people’s medical needs here. Many innocent kids died due to brain fever,” PM Modi said, adding, “we (BJP) have made 18 new medical colleges in the state, and (construction) work is underway for 20. We also set up AIIMS in Gorakhpur. We are also trying that the poor children get to study medical, engineering in their own language.”
 
 
About 35 percent polling was recorded till 1 pm in the fifth phase of Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls for 61 seats. Polling has been peaceful so far barring in Pratapgarh’s Kunda assembly seat where SP candidate Gulshan Yadav’s convoy was allegedly attacked by some people. Party workers claimed that Yadav sustained minor injuries in the attack.
 
 
While Amethi recorded 35.93 per cent voting, Ayodhya saw 38.74 per cent, Bahraich 37.25 per cent, Barabanki 36.23 per cent, Chitrakoot 39.08 per cent, Gonda 34.36 per cent, Kaushambi 37.23 per cent, Pratapgarh 33.59 per cent, Prayagraj 33.59 per cent, Raebareli 33.64 per cent, Shrawasti 36.5 per cent and Sultanpur 34.85 per cent, it said. As many as 692 candidates are in the fray in this round including Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya, who is contesting from Sirathu in Kaushambi district. He is pitted against Apna Dal (Kamerawadi) candidate Pallavi Patel.
