Chennai, Feb 17: Raila Odinga, former Prime Minister of Kenya expressed gratitude to the Ayurveda doctors of Kerala for restoring the eyesight of his daughter Rosemary Odinga.

Rosemary lost her eyesight in 2017 following damage to her optic nerve. To get cured of the vision problem she received treatment from doctors in South Africa, Israel, and China. However, all these treatments could not restore her vision.

According to reports in ‘The Hindu’ Raila Odinga came to know about the Ayurveda doctors of Kerala from his friends and decided to try this treatment for his daughter Rosemary. So the treatment started in 2019 at Shreedhareeyam Ayurvedic Eye Hospital and Research Centre at Koothattukulam in Ernakulum district of Kerala.

Raila Odinga visited the hospital with her daughter for her treatment sparing time from his busy election campaign schedule for the presidential elections this year.

Rosemary received the treatment for one month in Kerala and returned home to continue her medication at home. After continued treatment and checkups, the former Kenyan PM’s daughter got her vision restored, as per the release issued by the hospital.

However, she is expected to stay in the hospital for the follow-up treatment for the next three weeks. The chief physician Narayanan Namboodiri, who guided the treatment said, the former Kenyan PM’s visit has reiterated the pride and possibilities of Ayurvedic treatment.

In a tweet, Dennis Nyambane, Security & Human Intelligence PRO said, “Raila Odinga in Kochi Kerala, India. Baba Care is a reality-Access to Quality and affordable health care services to all Kenyans.”

Ayurveda is an alternative medical system to the allopathic medical system. Ayurveda, which is practiced mainly in India, has its roots in the past. The Ayurveda therapies involve herbal medicines, spa, concoction, diets, meditation, yoga, laxatives, and massages. However, Ayurveda has a downside since it is reportedly pseudoscientific.
