India will assume the presidency of the G-20 grouping today. As part of this, several events will be held across the country. This includes the lighting of 100 monuments including UNESCO world heritage sites with the G-20 logo to mark the occasion, accompanied by a selfie competition encouraging people to take a picture with the monument in the background.

100 monuments including UNESCO world heritage sites bearing the G-20 logo will be illuminated for seven days from December 1 to 7 including Srinagar's Shankaracharya temple to Delhi's Red Fort to Thanjavur's Great living Chola temple. Apart from this, Humayun's Tomb and Purana Quila in Delhi to Modhera Sun Temple in Gujarat, and Konark Sun Temple in Odisha to Sher Shah Suri's Tomb in Bihar, are in the list of these 100 sites.
 
During the course of this year's presidency, India will host 200 meetings across the nations in over 50 cities and in 32 different sectors.
 
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, in a tweet on India's #G20Presidency, stated that "around 200 meetings in 32 different sectors at multiple locations, is to be held over the next one year." Moreover, the website G20.org will be transferred to New Delhi from Indonesia along with the social media accounts.
 
 
Reports suggest, the G20 presidency will kick off with celebrations at the Hornbill Festival in Nagaland. In Delhi, External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar will participate in a university connect event at Sushma Swaraj Bhawan, accompanied by the principal secretary.
 
PM Modi penned a note as India assumes G20 Presidency today. "India's G20 Presidency will work to promote this universal sense of one-ness. Hence our theme - 'One Earth, One Family, One Future'. This is not just a slogan. It takes into account recent changes in human circumstances, which we have collectively failed to appreciate.
 
He also spoke of the challenges before the world. "Today, the greatest challenges we face - climate change, terrorism, and pandemics - can be solved not by fighting each other, but only by acting together. Fortunately, today's technology also gives us the means to address problems on a humanity-wide scale. The massive virtual worlds that we inhabit today demonstrate the scalability of digital technologies.
 
"Housing one-sixth of humanity, and with its immense diversity of languages, religions, customs and beliefs, India is a microcosm of the world. With the oldest-known traditions of collective decision-making, India contributes to the foundational DNA of democracy. As the mother of democracy, India's national consensus is forged not by diktat, but by blending millions of free voices into one harmonious melody," he added.
 
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was handed over the presidency of G20 By Indonesian President Joko Widodo at the end of the two-day G20 Summit in Bali, Indonesia. The PM had said that India's G20 presidency will be inclusive, ambitious, decisive, and action-oriented.
India will host the G-20 leaders' summit in New Delhi on September 9-10, 2023. The G20 comprises 19 countries -- Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, India, Indonesia, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Turkey, the UK, the USA --and the European Union (EU).
