Congress lands in another trouble! Court asks Twitter to block Cong’s accounts over ‘copyright violations

Bengaluru, November 09: In a major blow to the Congress party, the Bengaluru Court has ordered the temporary blocking of the Congress's Twitter handle for allegedly violating copyright by illegally using the sound recorded for the KGF 2 film at the Bharat Jodo Yatra.

 

 

The court passed the order after MRT Music, who owned copyrights of music filed suit against the grand old party. For unreserved, the Congress party has used the songs from the super-hit film KGF 2 in one of the videos of the Bharat Jodo Yatra featuring Rahul Gandhi.

 

As per the reports, additional City Civil Judge Lathakumari M has asked the social media giant to take down three links from the social media platform and block the two handles @INCIndia and @BharatJodo – till the next date of the hearing on November 21.

 

 

 

The court further stated that prima facie materials established that if the alleged illegal use of sound records was encouraged, the plaintiff would suffer an irreparable injury and would also result in encouraging piracy at large.

 

“Plaintiff has specifically produced CD showing the side-by-side file i.e., the original version of his copyrighted work with that of the illegally synchronised version,” the court said.

 

Besides, a legal suit, MRT Music had also filed a case against three Congress leaders -- Rahul Gandhi, Jairam Ramesh, and Supriya Shrinate -- for infringement of copyrights.

 

"These unlawful actions committed by a national political party reflects their blatant disregard to the rule of law and the rights of private individuals and entities while they are conducting this Bharath Jodo Yatra to seek an opportunity to govern the country and frame legislation for protecting the rights of the common man and businesses," a statement released by the MRT Music read.

 

Responding to the court order, Congress said it has not received any such order yet.
