Rahul Gandhi sued over the use of KGF 2 songs in Bharat Jodo Yatra promo videos

Bengaluru, Nov 5: A Bengaluru-based music label, MRT Music has filed a copyright infringement lawsuit against Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi, Supriya Srinate, and Jairam Ramesh. It has claimed that the Congress used songs from the South Indian superhit film KGF 2 that it produced without permission to create marketing videos for the Bharat Jodo Yatra starring Gandhi.

 

 

In its complaint, it said it holds music rights to over 20,000 plus tracks in Kannada, Hindi, Telugu, Tamil etc. It has also invested huge sums of money to acquire classic old music for one of the latest and one of the biggest movies of the year “KGF Chapter 2” in Hindi.

 

It claims that the Congress used songs from the South Indian superhit film KGF 2 that it produced without permission to create marketing videos for the Bharat Jodo Yatra starring Gandhi.

 

 

Under sections 403 (dishonest misappropriation of property), 465 (punishment for forgery), 120 (concealing design to commit offence punishable with imprisonment), and 34 (common intention) of the IPC, Section 66 of the Information Technology Act, 2000, and Section 63 of the Copyrights Act, 1957, a FIR has been filed against the party in general and the three Congress leaders.

 

"These unlawful actions committed by a National Political Party reflect their blatant disregard to the rule of law and the rights of private individuals and entities while they are conducting this Bharath Jodo Yatra to seek an opportunity to govern the county and frame legislations for protecting the rights of the common man and businesses," the company's legal counsel said.

 

MRT Music has filed the present complaint only to enforce its statutory rights and has no intentions to tarnish the image of any political party, the counsel said.

 

MRT Music partner M Naveen Kumar said, this act on the part of the Congress party sends a completely wrong signal to members of pubic and "is completely contrary to the efforts of safeguarding our copyrights. This grave infringement will be challenged by us to the fullest effort," he said in a press note.
