Islamabad, Nov 4: Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan was shot at with an AK-47 during his ‘freedom’ rally that began on Friday. He has been hospitalized with a bullet injury to his right leg. His former minister Fawad Chaudhry has claimed the attack to be an assassination attempt on Khan.
The man who shot the former Pakistan PM was arrested by the Pakistani police on the same day. He has confessed to having committed the crime and said that he shot Imran Khan as he was misleading the people.
The man who has been identified as Faisal Butt said, "I have done this because Imran Khan was misleading the people. I could not tolerate this. Therefore, I shot at him. I attempted to kill him. Only Imran Khan and nobody else."
Further, he added, "I shot him because while Azaan was going on, Imran Khan was playing music. Thinking over this, my conscience did not consider these things to be good. I was convinced to do this from the morning itself. Rather, I was thinking of shooting him right from the day he left Lahore and took his march. Since then, it was clear to me that I should not spare him."
He also informed that he was not part of any group. "No one is with me. There is no force backing me. I am all alone. I came here on my own bike from my home. I parked my bike near my uncle’s shop. He runs a motorcycle showroom," he said.
Videos of the incident had surfaced on social media which show that a man had tried to stop Faisal by snatching the gun from him.
India's Ministry of External Affairs' spokesperson, Arindam Baghchi, reacted to the attack on Imran Khan and said, "As I was coming to this presser, I heard the news about Imran Khan. There are developments taking place and we are keeping an eye on the issue and closely monitoring the situation. As of now, not many details are available."
According to AFP, the man suspected of attacking Pakistan ex-PM Imran Khan has been shot dead.
