New Delhi, Nov, Nov 28: The central government has barred the students of Class 1 to 8 studying in the madrasas of Uttar Pradesh from applying for scholarships. Till now, students studying in Class 1 to 5 were given a scholarship of Rs 1000, while students in Class 6 to 8, were provided scholarships based on different courses.
Last year, about 5 lakh children availed of scholarships of which 16,558 madrasas were involved.
According to the central government, education from Class 1 to 8 is provided free of cost under the Right to Education Act. Mid-day meals and books are also free in these madrasas. In addition to this, other essential items are also provided for the students. Hence, the scholarship has been stopped. Therefore, only students of Class 9 and 10 will be provided scholarships and their applications should be forwarded. The state government had already stopped the scholarship. But now, the central government has stopped it as well. Mid-day meals and books are provided free of cost in these madrasas.
As per the government, education for students of Classes 1 to 8 is free under the Right to Education Act. And since other essential items are also given to the students, the scholarship has been stopped.
