In his remarks last week over defending immunity to the Saudi Crown Prince, US state department principal deputy spokesperson Vedant Patel cited examples of immunity given to several heads of the state including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

While answering the question related to the US official's remark, MEA spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said that the U.S. comments were not "relevant, necessary or contextual".

"I fail to understand how [the State Department’s] comment on PM Modi was either necessary, relevant or contextual. Our two countries enjoy a very special relationship that is going from strength to strength, and we look forward to deepening it," he said.

The MEA spokesperson also clarified that no proposal for a visit by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the US in December has been made by the Indian side.

Further, Bagchi also dismissed reports attributed to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and White House spokesperson about the meeting between PM Modi and US President Biden.
