As per the reports, Aziz (Lateef's brother) and his friends attacked Anjali when she was going to her workplace at 10. 30 am in Murlipura city. Anjali worked at the Ayurvedic product shops while her husband Lateef is a salesman in a Mobile shop.

While giving the information about the crime, Lateef said, “I had gone to work when I got to know that my wife was shot while she was going to her office at about 10:30 am. I had earlier sought security from the court as my brother was against our marriage.”

The couple met at a private college in Jhotwara and fell in love with each other. When Latif informed his family members about his wish to marry Anjali, they started threatening him. Anjali's family members had not objected to the marriage. However, despite the threats, the couple got married in July 2021. Since then Lateef's brother Aziz was threatening Anjali saying that they would pay the price for their interfaith marriage.
