Many describe Shrimant Bajirao Peshwa, with utmost pride, as an unconquered warrior of our country or world. In his lifetime he did not lose a single battle. But after his death, we defeated him by being utterly indifferent to him, to his contribution to our nation and its pride.
Today visited his
samadhi at Raverkhedi village, on the bank of Narmada maiyya, built by the Sindhiya family. The samadhi which should be the fountainhead of inspiration and a matter of our national pride is in total shambles. No one to look after the structure, just a couple of inscriptions receive us with indifference. No one to tell the tales of his valour, fearlessness and unique strategies, the history which we all ought to know.
His life is just not a love story, but much more than that and many lessons to learn. He should be remembered as one of our
mahanayaks.
Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh Governments need to pay attention to it jointly. It has to be clean, well maintained. It is to be developed as a tourist centre too. Awareness about the memorial is required. How can we forget the heroes of our nation?
No ballads are written and sung in memory of our great personalities. Such a towering personality is unsung and unheard of. The history has to come alive there, but the memorial and is just gathering dust. Felt very frustrated and sadness loomed over my conscience. Can we expect our nation to shine when our mahanayaks are forgotten?
