Pune, Oct 6: In a recent update it is known that Vice Admiral Arti Sarin took over as the commandant of the Armed Forces Medical College ( AFMC ) in Pune, on Wednesday (Oct 5). Here are 6 quick facts about the Vice Admiral who will be leading the legendary institution;

1. Commissioned in December 1985 into Armed Forces Medical Services ( AFMC ), Vice Admiral Arti Sarin has the distinction of having completed two postgraduate degrees; MD in Radiology at AFMC Pune and in DNB Radiation Oncology from the Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai.
 
2. Besides, Vice Admiral Arti Sarin has trained in Gamma Knife Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh, USA. Gamma Knife radiosurgery is a type of radiation therapy used to treat tumors, vascular malformations and other abnormalities in the brain.
 
3. Vice Admiral Arti Sarin is an examiner for the National Board of Examination in Radiotherapy and is a recognized teacher and examiner at various universities. She has also served as Prof & HOD Radiation Oncology at Army Hospital R & R Delhi, Command Hospital / AFMC, Pune and INHS Asvini.
 
 
 
 
 
4. Her service with the Indian Navy is marked with tenures at the Naval Science & Technology Limited Visakhapatnam. She has served at the naval hospitals at Port Blair, Visakhapatnam, Kochi and Mumbai.
 
5. The Naval Medical Officer had spearheaded the Southern Naval Command, Kochi's fight against COVID 19 pandemic by overseeing the designing and developing innovative solutions and setting up quarantine facilities in Kochi.
