A young woman, Anna Chandy chose law as her career to become the first woman High Court judge in India in 1959. She is also one of the earliest feminists in India. Anna also worked for upliftment of women.

Chandy was the first woman from Kerala to learn law and thus became the first lady judge of Kerala HC. In fact, she was also one of the first female judges even in the British Empire. Chandy began her practice in 1929 as a barrister and specialized in criminal law. Her work earned her a widespread acclaim for fighting criminal cases
In 1930 she became the founder and editor of Shrimati, a Malayali magazine that served as a platform for the advancement of women’s rights.
