New Delhi, Oct 28: Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) will 'soon' witness a rebellion, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said during his visit to Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday. Speaking about PoK, Rajnath Singh said that India is committed to retrieving Kashmir from the illegal occupation of Pakistan.
"Our country is watching and feeling the pain of the citizens of PoK, where Pakistan is unleashing torture and harassment. Very soon there will be a rebellion in the PoK by the citizens against the atrocities. Our aim is to implement the resolution unanimously passed in Indian Parliament on February 22, 1994 to reclaim remaining parts, such as Gilgit and Baltistan,” he
said.
The resolution on PoK was adopted unanimously by both Houses on February 22, 1994. The resolution states that 'the entire Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh have been, are and shall be an integral part of India'.
In 2020, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) had said that the government monitors all developments taking place in the territories of India including in territories that are under illegal and forcible occupation of Pakistan.
"We have consistently called upon Pakistan to immediately vacate all areas under its illegal and forcible occupation, and to put an end to the human rights violations and desist from continued attempts to bring material change in these territories," the MEA had said.
Besides, New Delhi has vehemently stated that PoK is an integral part of India and even has representation of PoK constituencies in the J&K Assembly.
