"I'm pleased to announce BCCI's first step towards tackling discrimination. We are implementing a pay equity policy for our contracted women cricketers. The match fee for both Men and Women Cricketers will be the same as we move into a new era of gender equality in Indian Cricket," Shah tweeted.

BCCI secretary Shah also highlighted the new fees for the contracted players and stressed that the Indian Women's cricket team will earn the same match fees as their male counterparts. "The @BCCIWomen cricketers will be paid the same match fee as their male counterparts. Test (INR 15 lakhs), ODI (INR 6 lakhs), T20I (INR 3 lakhs). Pay equity was my commitment to our women cricketers and I thank the Apex Council for their support. Jai Hind," he added in another tweet.

Here is a list of nations where men and women are paid equally in cricket:

1. New Zealand

In July, New Zealand announced that both male and female will earn equal pay, thanks to a five-year agreement by New Zealand Cricket and the players' association. According to the agreement, women's players will be paid the same match fees as men in all forms and events at both the domestic and international levels. The deal that includes the better salary and conditions is based on the men's and women's professional players earning 29.75 percent of the NZC's forecasted revenue over five years ($349m), or an estimated $104 million.

2. India

BCCI secretary Jay Shah confirmed that India's women cricketers would earn the same match fees as their male counterparts in international matches going forward in a significant move towards equal pay.

Yes, only these countries implemented equal pay and India thus became only the second country in international cricket to do so.

Legendary cricketer Mithali Raj chose to described it as a "historic decision for women's cricket in India". With this policy, India's women cricketers will earn INR 15 lakh for a Test, 6 lakh for an ODI and 3 lakh for a T20I, the same as the men's cricketers.
