Every cricket fan on Sunday night went through a roller coaster as emotions were flaring up high with one of the most nail-biting T20 matches being witnessed in Melbourne Cricket Ground. However, it was not only the fans but also the players who went through a lot of emotions in the intense match that went in favour of Team India.
1. Rohit Sharma
India captain Rohit Sharma struggled to hold back his emotions as he led the Indian team for the national anthem during their high-octane Super 12 match against Pakistan at T20 World Cup 2022. He was spotted on television cameras looking up at the evening sky in Melbourne, unable to control what seemingly was tears.
It was a proud moment for Rohit Sharma who led India in a World Cup match for the first time in his career. 15 years after starring in India's inaugural T20 World Cup triumph, Rohit led India at a major tournament after having proved his mettle as skipper in the shortest format of the game.
2. Hardik Pandya
Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya, who picked three wickets and scored an important 40 and built 100+ partnership with Virat Kohli in the run-chase, remembered his father after the side defeated Pakistan while interacting with home broadcasters Star Sports.
“Agar vo mujhe khelne ka mauka nahi dete, toh main idhar nahi khada hota. Itna bada sacrifice karna, bacchon ke liye poora city shift karna. Main nahi kar sakta, main apne bacchon se bohot pyaar karta hu. Unke liye sab kar lunga, but uss samay pe jab 6 saal ke the dono bhai, tab city aur business sab shift karna.. bohot badi baat hai. I will be grateful forever (If he hadn't given me a chance, I won't be standing here. He made a big sacrifice, he shifted to a different city for his kids. I love my kids so much but I can't do that. We were six at that time, and he shifted an entire city and his entire business. It was a big thing),” Hardik said as he turned emotional.
3. Virat Kohli
An emotional Virat Kohli was seen on India's T20 World Cup opening victory. The "Chase Master" was determined to finish the game who hammered an unbeaten knock of 82 runs off 53 balls, including six fours and four sixes. After Ravichandran Ashwin took the winning run in the final ball, a teary-eyed Kohli could be seen sprinting to celebrate and then was joined by teammates.
Having sealed a morale-boosting opening-day win, India will face the Netherlands in their next Super 12 match on October 27 in Sydney.
