New Delhi, October 21: Former Home Minister Shivraj Patil, who is notorious for his tardy response during the 26/11 terrorist attack in Mumbai, has stirred a controversy by making statements against Hindu God Shri Krishna.
The remarks were made at the launch event of veteran Congress leader Mohsina Kidwai’s biography “My life in India politics”. During the press conference, he claimed that the concept of ‘Jihad’ is a part of the Bhagavad Gita and that it was taught to Arjuna by Lord Krishna.
He asserted that, “Jihad is when someone could not attain cleaner and peaceful thoughts even after trying all possible means to tame a person and bring him on the right path, that is when one has to try other ways and it is not written just in Quran. Only Quran doesn’t talk about Jihad, but Shri Krishna in Mahabharata taught Arjun the lessons of Jihad too, even Jesus Christ in Bible talks about Jihad.”
Shivraj Patil then justified the concept of Jihad and said, “Despite trying your best, if someone approaches you with weapons, you cannot simply run away…You cannot call it wrong.”
It should be noted that the Patil, was sacked as the Union home minister for his tardy response during the attacks.
He was also accused of not sending the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) to Nandigram, even after getting repeated requests by the West Bengal government.
As per the reports, during the night of the 26/11 attacks. National Security Guard (NSG) Commandos had quickly taken their positions in the aircraft meant to deploy them at the attack sites. However, they were made to wait for Congress’ Home Minister Patil. It is alleged that on account of Shivraj Patil boarding the aircraft, the deployment of NSG on the attack sites in Mumbai got delayed.
It was also alleged that he had been changing clothes for public appearances at a time when the nation was under a terrorist attack.
