Patna, Oct 15: Janata Dal-United (JDU) national president Lalan Singh has launched an attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and raked up his caste. He said that PM Modi belongs to a 'backward' caste and also accused him of duplicity.

"PM Modi projects himself from the Extremely Backward Class (EBC) caste. I want to tell you that there is no EBC in Gujarat. When he became the Chief Minister of Gujarat, he merged his caste into EBC. He is a duplicate person," he said while addressing his party members.

"If someone holds the post of PM for ten years, then he/she should provide all the details to the audience," he said, hitting out at the central government over rising inflation and unemployment. The BJP was quick enough to slam Lalan Singh for his remarks. BJP leader Ravi Shankar Prasad said, "There is no shame left. Why are you making such comments? He is the national president of a party. He himself has become an MP in the name of Modi and not because of Nitish. This is the truth. The standard of politics should be good. We do not even pay attention to small leaders, but such a statement is not acceptable." Terming the BJP two-faced, Lalan Singh, a close aide of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, accused the BJP is against reservations. "What is the problem with the caste census? BJP knew that if a caste census were conducted, then they would be exposed. When the central government was not ready, the Nitish government decided to conduct it," he said. "They (the BJP) always make tall claims but do not talk about the real issues like inflation and unemployment and divert attention on other issues," Singh said, stepping up his attack against the saffron camp. Singh also praised the party leaders who left the BJP to join the JD(U) and said they had done good work as the former is not an appropriate place to work. "The employment in the country is getting finished and there is no control over high inflation. Bihar CM Nitish Kumar fulfilled his promises made in 2005 and also said that he would not seek votes if work is not completed. But PM Modi never said this," Lalan Singh added.

"BJP knew that if it conducted a caste-based census in the country, the party would be exposed. Nitish Kumar, on the other hand, decided to conduct a caste-based census at the expense of the state government and his decision was in the interest of OBCs and EBCs," Lalan Singh said.
