The first head of Women’s department of the Indian National Congress, Sucheta Kriplani came to the political forefront during the Quit India Movement, in 1942. Later in 1946, with her active participation in the freedom struggle, Kriplani was elected as a member of India's Constituent Assembly.
However, Sucheta Kriplani is more renowned as the first woman to become Chief Minister of an Indian state. She was elected from the New Delhi constituency in the first general election held in 1952.
The way to her progress didn't end here and in 1962, after being elected from the Kanpur constituency, Kriplani became a Cabinet Minister as well. Newsbharati remembers Sucheta Kriplani for her dedicated work for the country;
