New Delhi, September 06: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has issued a lookout notice against NCP leader and former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh in connection with a money laundering case, leading to Deshmukh's resignation from state government post.
According to sources, the lookout circular was issued in order to prevent Deshmukh from fleeing from India. He skipped several summons issued by the ED in the case which forced him to resign from the Maharashtra Home Minister post in April.
The Supreme Court refused to offer Deshmukh interim relief from coercive action in lawsuit last month.
Deshmukh moved the Bombay High Court on 2nd September, looking to quash the summons. The plea was not taken up for hearing right away. The number of summons issued to Deshmukh till now were 5, asking him to appear for questioning. He skipped each one of them, and said he would seek appropriate remedy available under law.
