Lucknow, August 23: In view of his contribution to the Ram Mandir movement, the Yogi Adityanath-led-Uttar Pradesh government has announced that the road leading to Ram Janmbhoomi in Ayodhya will be named after former chief minister Kalyan Singh, who passed away on Saturday night.
UP's Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya made the announcement on Monday. He said that this would be a tribute to the contribution of the late leader in the Ayodhya movement and his commitment to the Ram temple.
Apart from this, the UP government has also decided to rename one road each in five districts after Kalyan Singh. These districts are Lucknow, Ayodhya, Prayagraj, Bulandshahr, and Aligarh. "The PWD department will soon complete the formalities in this regard," Maurya told.
Kalyan Singh died in Lucknow on Saturday night after a prolonged illness. Kalyan Singh was admitted to Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences on July 4 following a deterioration in his condition. He was 89. His last rites will be performed on the bank of Ganga in Narora in the evening.
He was a two-time chief minister of UP from June 1991 to December 1992 and September 1997 to November 1999. He was also appointed the Governor of Rajasthan in 2010 and completed his term in 2019.
