Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took social media site and tweeted the video of the violence on Twitter and sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Shah's intervention into the matter.

"Hon'ble @ZoramthangaCM Ji, Kolasib ( Mizoram) SP is asking us to withdraw from our post until then their civilians won't listen nor stop the violence. How can we run the government in such circumstances? Hope you will intervene at earliest @AmitShah @PMOIndia," he tweeted.

Sharing the video of clashes on Twitter, Zoramthanga urged Union Home Minister Amit Shah to look into the matter. "Innocent couple on their way back to Mizoram via Cachar manhandled and ransacked by thugs and goons. How are you going to justify these violent acts?" he said in another tweet.

Assam Police claimed that miscreants from Mizoram indulged in stone-pelting and attacked government officials from Assam.

Three Mizoram's districts- Aizawl, Kolasib, and Mamit share a 164.6 km long inter-state border with Assam's Cachar, Hailakandi and Karimganj districts. Both states have accused the other of encroaching on their lands. There have been skirmishes at the "disputed" areas of the border for years, with the residents on both sides accusing each other of intrusion.

The dispute has escalated in recent times. The Assam Police has established camps at two places along the interstate border. “Both the Assam Police and the Mizoram Police are now camping in that area. As a result, some people have left the place, but it is not due to any threat from the Mizo forces,” Cachar Superintendent of Police Nimbalkar Vaibhav Chandrakant said on Thursday.
